Questions and answers about the Mediaserver

In the following Q&A you will find the most important questions regarding to our Mediaserver. However, please read our terms and conditions before using the material.

1. What is the Mediaserver?

The Hamburg Marketing GmbH Mediaserver gives users the opportunity to download photos, videos and footage material and use them free of charge for non-commercial purposes in the sense of location marketing and editorial reporting. 

Furthermore, by integrating styleguides and the web-to-print tool, the Mediaserver offers all support for the print product creation and provides PowerPoint presentations, signage (or similar) in accordance with the "design guidelines of the Hamburg administration".

The Mediaserver download center gives you the possibility to collect files centrally available on the Mediaserver and to download them compactly as ZIP files as well as to send a link to this selection by e-mail.

2. How do I register on the Mediaserver?

At the "Login"-Button -> "Not yet registered?" you get to the registration for the Mediaserver. You need to enter your user group and personal data. You will find further information on the selection of the various user groups through the information symbol next to it.

After registration, you will automatically have access to our brochures, Hamburg images and videos, for viewing and downloading respectively.

While registering you can also request access to the footage. The explanation for footage access can be found in point 8.

3. Are the materials on the Mediaserver free of charge?

Yes, all materials, that can be downloaded from our Mediaserver, are free as long being used in accordance with the terms of use. If you wish to use the material for any other purpose, please contact us at markenservice@marketing.hamburg.de.

4. How can the files be used?

Brochures: Any person, including non-registered users, can access all files at „Brochures & Magazines“.

Images: It is permitted for the press to use them to illustrate journalistic-editorial reports to inform the public about the Hamburg Metropolitan Region in all media and through administrative authorities belonging to the districts, communities and towns of the Hamburg Metropolitan Region; administrative authorities based outside of the Hamburg Metropolitan Region exclusively for editorial publications (e.g. brochures) providing information for the public about the Hamburg Metropolitan Region.

Videos: It is permitted for the press to use them to illustrate journalistic-editorial reports to inform the public about the Hamburg Metropolitan Region in all media and through administrative authorities belonging to the districts, communities and towns of the Hamburg Metropolitan Region; administrative authorities based outside of the Hamburg Metropolitan Region exclusively for editorial publications (e.g. brochures) providing information for the public about the Hamburg Metropolitan Region.

Footage: In order to access the footage material, you must be registered on the Mediaserver. You will find the further process to get access to the footage material under point 8.

5. How does the Downloadcenter work?

Note: To use the Downloadcenter, you must be registered on the Mediaserver.

1. Click on "Add to Downloadcenter" at the desired media.

2. When you have added all the media you want to download, click on "Downloadcenter" in the upper right corner.

3. Click on "Download all" in the Downloadcenter. The selected media will then be downloaded collectively in a ZIP file.

4. Create a permanent link to save the selection and send it. Registered persons can also download these media.

6. What is the styleguide?

The Mediaserver styleguide section gives you as the "municipal institution" user access to all documents that explain the exact requirements for the use of the communication model. This also includes templates and design elements.

7. What is the web-to-print tool?

The web-to-print tool provides you with a selection of templates for the simplified creation of print products, such as posters and brochures, in accordance with the "Design Guidelines of the Hamburg Administration".

8. How do I get access to the footage?

To download and use the footage, it is necessary that you register - once free of charge - on the Mediaserver with your user group (https://marketing.hamburg.de/member-registrieren.html).

When registering, please select "Footage" to get access. Then, you will be asked to fill in the title of the project and a project description.

After registration is completed, our brochures, Hamburg images and videos will automatically be available for download.

Afterwards you will be added to the “Footage" user group and can download and use the raw material.

Please send us a link to the video that was created with our footage material, before releasing it. We will immediately issue a written release if the material is used for Hamburg's application and according to the terms of use.

9. Can I edit the materials of the Mediaserver?

All brochures, magazines, pictures and videos can only be used as provided. Therefore, cutting and colour editing of the photos is not permitted.

Only the footage material can be altered in its form. Further information can be found under point 8.

10. Where can I find the copyright?

You will find the information about the authors of the material under the respective selected file under "Photo credits" (in the case of a photo) or "Video credits" (in the case of a video). For photos, the proof of copyright must always be given in the form "Photo: www.mediaserver.hamburg.de / Name of photographer" and directly on the picture so that it can be clearly assigned to the respective picture. For videos please use the form "Video: www.mediaserver.hamburg.de / Name of the producer".

11. Can I use the photos on social media platforms?

Not all authors of the photos have released their photos for use on social media platforms. If you would like to use photos for social media channels, you can use the filter function "approval for social media" and the photos, which can be released on social media channels, will be displayed.
